As an SEO Trainer and Consultant I’m often asked what SEO metrics clients want to see and what SEO tools to use to get these metrics.
There are a whole host of SEO Tools from numerous suppliers but you usually need to subscribe to several of these and pay a monthly fee to keep using them. So what I recommend to both people who come on one of my courses or to my clients is SEO Power suite. It’s a suite of SEO Software tools that covers all bases for a one off fee.
You can buy it in its 4 individual products or as a suite of tools. I highly recommend investing in the complete suite of tools though.
One of the things that impresses me most about the complete range is the regular updates you get. On starting any of the tools, it automatically detects whether you are using the latest version then updates for you. Now with Google releasing numerous algorithmic changes all the time (think Penguin and Panda updates most recently) it’s important that your SEO Tools are kept up-to-date.
Rank Tracker
Rank Tracker is one of my personal favourites. It gives you the ability to track your clients keywords across all search engines and save that data. It produces a useful graph. At the end of the day clients want to see improvements in rankings and this tool is ‘best in class’ when it comes to this.
Not only does it help me present my ranking data to my clients in a professional manor, it also motivates me to help drive those rankings through my link building and onsite optimisation efforts.

Even better is that this is more than a simple rank tracking tool. It also gives you a whole host of customisable options such as the ability to customise the report for your client and have it emailed over to them. Automating these tasks means you can spend more time doing your SEO instead of manually creating your reports.
Website Auditor
When I’m proactively looking for new SEO clients I like to send over a website audit. Now if they aren’t currently a client this can start to take up a lot of time for unpaid work. This is where I like to use Website auditor. It gives me the power to review a website without spending hours sifting through categories and product pages on large sites manually.
I also like to use this tool to bench mark my clients websites and my clients competitors websites.

It produces a nice customisable report giving you and your client a professional report. You are able to select the metrics you want to use from domain ranking metrics to search engines metrics. What amazes me is that it also allows the creation of your sitemap and robots.txt file. Now anyone who knows anything about SEO knows that adding a sitemap and linking to it in your robots.txt (the first file a search engine bot will look for) is critical to your sites success.
Link Assistant
Search engines crawl the web and index content via links. Its really quite simple. We know that the main ranking factors are…
•A balanced approach to anchor text in external links
(e.g. varying keyword anchor text, brand anchor text, click here anchor text, URL links etc)
•Quality of external link sources
•Quantity of external links
•Diversity of link sources (directories, blog posts, articles, comments, reviews etc)
•Link type and placement on page (page layout algorithm considerations)
•Link Profile (dofollow and nofollow)
So we must build links! Now that’s the hard part. But guess what? Link Assistant makes this task a hell of a lot easier.
It helps you automate the process and you can even search for potential link partners by keyword or by who links to your competitors along with several other methods.
One of the nice features is that it shows you link partners with a page rank higher than 3 and even gives you their email address where it finds it! Awesome!
SEO Spy Glass
You’ve been busy doing your SEO, but what have your competitors been doing? Where have they got there links from?
This tool lets you start off by either choosing a keyword you want to rank for or by looking at one of your competitors and giving you a report on there back link profile. Whats nice is that you can also link in your Google Analytics data for real effective data. So once you run this tool you’ll get a list of the links that your competitors have that are helping them rank well.

You can then take this data and see what links you can get to help you rank better. If they are helping your competitor succeed then they can help you succeed. I’ve personally used this tool to jump above competitors for a number of clients!
So to sum up, when someone Ask’s the SEO, which SEO Tools are the best? The answer is simple….. SEO Power Suite.
